What to expect

This training provides comprehensive instruction in the core mindfulness practices and clinical skills central to MORE. Participants will learn the theoretical foundations of the MORE model, review current research evidence, and explore recent advances in neuroscience and biobehavioral science related to mindfulness, addiction, stress, and chronic pain.

The training includes guided demonstrations of the therapeutic techniques and structured opportunities for applied practice. Participants will observe expert delivery of MORE interventions and receive clear guidance for implementing these methods with fidelity.

Upon completion, participants will gain a solid introductory level of competency in delivering MORE and will be prepared to begin applying these techniques with individuals experiencing addictive behaviors,  chronic pain conditions, or emotional distress.

Dr. Eric Garland, PhD, LCSW

Dr. Eric Garland, PhD, LCSW, is an Endowed Professor in Health Sciences at the Sanford Institute for Empathy and Compassion, Endowed Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and the Center for Addiction Science and Treatment at the University of California San Diego, and Director of UCSD's ONEMIND (Optimized Neuroscience-Enhanced Intervention Design). Previously, he served as Distinguished Endowed Chair in Research, Distinguished Professor, and Associate Dean for Research at the University of Utah, as well as Associate Director of Integrative Medicine in Supportive Oncology and Survivorship at the Huntsman Cancer Institute.


Dr. Garland is the developer of MORE, an innovative, mindfulness-based intervention founded on insights derived from cognitive, affective, and neurobiological science.


Dr. Garland is the world’s most published author on mindfulness research, with more than 280 peer-reviewed publications. His work has been featured in major media outlets such as CNN, the New York Times, Time, NPR, and the LA Times.


In addition to his research leadership, Dr. Garland is a licensed psychotherapist with over two decades of clinical experience treating addiction, trauma, mood disorders, chronic pain, and psychosomatic conditions. He is trained in mindfulness-based therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and clinical hypnosis, and was elected a Distinguished Fellow of the National Academies of Practice in recognition of his clinical expertise.
